Chimo Scuba Expedition

Begin your discovery of the underwater world by cruising with us to Chimo. This tiny Mexican fishing village has only 150 people and is accessible only by boat. The village may be small, but the marine world at El Chimo is tremendously rich with variety and sea life. Located on the southern coast of Banderas Bay, the El Chimo dive site offers all kinds of underwater treasures for the diver.

Passengers aboard our Chimo Scuba Expedition will marvel at Torrecillas. This underwater plateau supports tree-like pinnacles on its quarter mile diameter base, creating a stunning dramatic structure. Torrecillas means towers, and once you see these incredible structures, you'll see why this spot is named after the pinnacles. They are truly beautiful! There are cleaning stations at Torrecillas, and a steep dropoff on the outer edge. Inside the forest of pinnacles, there's sandy bottom at 40 feet, and large schools of tropical fish. You might want to take pictures here. You'll need to have dive experience with 30 plus feet depths in order to explore all of El Chimo and its beautiful structures like Torrecillas. Torrecillas has depths from 45 to 120 feet.

Another structure to look for while diving El Chimo is Las Iglesias (The Churches). These structures rise directly off the ocean's floor and look like columns from a cathedral. Las Iglesias are lava tubes, actually, and were formed when hot lava spewed from underground volcanoes. Now they're covered with colorful coral. You can imagine, they're quite the spectacle! Torrecillas and Las Iglesias and the abundance of sea life at this dive spot make El Chimo one of the most popular scuba expeditions out of Puerto Vallarta.
